A SIGNATURE SERIAL KILLER IN THE MAKING
By Chris Bartholomew

Boca Raton, Fla.

Profile
He feels that his victims would be more easily controlled if they have small children.
Control is really a big issue. It's the control that keeps him calm, and when he loses control, things go bad. Likely has a violent criminal past and is a local who knows the area. He's impulsive, doesn't consider consequences and is numbed to violence.
He is escalating and is very dangerous.

Psychopathic and has had thoughts about killing for a long time. Ligatures around the throat to control are not that common and he is probably practicing for future attacks that involve more than just murder.

This is a man who has a lot of females in his life. He is comfortable around mothers with children. Those around him would be surprised that he has committed these crimes.

People who know him will notice his preoccupation with the murders and his strange statements regarding the case.

The suspect is described as a White or Hispanic male, 18-25 years of age, 5'10" tall, of medium build, and possibly has a ponytail.

The Crimes:

March 23, 2007 Randi Gorenberg, 52, was shot west of Delray Beach after shopping at the Town Center mall. This attack happened at 1:16 PM. The victim was female and driving a Mercedes SUV. She was taken from the mall, shot, and dumped out of her vehicle less than 45 minutes after she was abducted. He dumped the car behind a Home Depot.

Aug. 7, 2007 robbery and kidnapping:

He knew what he was doing. A meticulous and highly organized gunman took pains to bind and blindfold a woman but also offered to refill her frightened boy's bottle and, before disappearing, used the woman's cellphone to call the child's father to pick them up.

She pulling into the Nordstrom parking garage at Town Center and noticed a brand-new silver Chevrolet Suburban parked in the space beside her.

Later, after the gunman had forced her to a nearby ATM, taken the wheel of her black 2007 Lincoln Navigator and driven up and down Florida's Turnpike, apparently by mistake, the woman would see the same Suburban again, idling in a remote corner of the Town Center parking lot near Sears.

The woman watched as the gunman slowed her SUV almost to a stop and made eye contact with a white man behind the wheel of the Suburban. Then her kidnapper continued to another part of the lot, where he eventually would leave her and her son.

Boca Raton police, who have been slow to release information in the case, have yet to make any mention of a silver Suburban in connection with the investigation, but this information does make one wonder if the killer has a partner.

August 10, 2007 On Aug. 10, a 19-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint at Mizner Park in Boca Raton, and the assailant demanded she take him to an ATM. She gave him $200 and got away.

Investigators are calling the Aug. 7, 2007 gunman a prime suspect in the Dec. 12, 2007 murders of Nancy Bochicchio, 47, and her daughter, Joey Bochicchio-Hauser, whose bodies were found in their black 2007 Chrysler Aspen idling near Sears early Dec. 13.

When police arrived they found Bochicchio's ankles, wrists and neck bound with plastic ties. A broken pair of novelty handcuffs dangled from her wrists, and a pair of swimming goggles covered her eyes. Both mother and daughter had been shot in the head at point-blank range.

It is interesting that he is able to attack during the early or late afternoon hours on weekdays. This would seem to indicate he either does not have a job, or works a night shift position.

Looking at the timeline of the attacks themselves, it would appear that either there are more attacks that have not been linked to the suspect between the first and second, or he was upset at having shot his first victim and it took time for him to return to the attacks. Just 3 days after the successful attack, he attempted another robbery, this time failing at least partially. It was not until December that he ventured out again, unless there are crimes during this period as well that have not been linked.

Much has been made of the fact that he killed the first victim, then let the next two victims live, while killing the fourth. This could be explained by the fact that the first victim either fought him or resisted his demands to travel to an ATM and he felt forced to shoot her.

The third victim escaped which may have eliminated his ability to complete the attack.

The attacks themselves appear to be thought out to some degree. Attacking his victims in such a public place as a mall parking lot or garage in the middle of the day also indicates he is confident that he can secure his victims quickly and quietly before they can call out.

His latest attack, where it would appear he shot the two victims after he had full control shows what may be an escalation in his behavior. He might be growing concerned at leaving witnesses. It could also be true that he is getting comfortable with killing and that he has found the high from merely robbing someone at gunpoint no longer satisfies.

It goes without saying, but the use of goggles is an oddity worth investigating.

All of the victims appear to be at least mildly affluent, given their vehicles and the locations in which they were attacked. Most of the victims were driving SUV’s, which are more expensive to both purchase and maintain. The stores they were visiting, such as Nordstrom’s are also high-end shops.

Forensic evidence does not link any of the cases.

In all three crimes, the victims were in black sport utility vehicles. However, investigators said they are particularly interested in the similarities between the two most recent cases.
Goggles and zip ties were used in both situations. The things that correlate in these cases are the facts that the victims were bound, that a handgun was used, that the mall is an area of interest as it relates to these crimes.

Part of the profile at the beginning of this article is the thing people should pay the most attention to; People who know him will notice his preoccupation with the murders and his strange statements regarding the case. Someone is already suspicious... will they tell?
